Maersk Line Warns Importers on Arms, Armunition, Explosives Imports Into Nigeria

Danish international container shipping company; Maersk Line has issued a fresh advisory to importers and exporters in Nigeria, saying that it has provided fresh updates on the handling of dangerous goods in Nigeria, and that arms and ammunition are no longer allowed for import into the country.

In the fresh advisory to all its customers, sighted by DAILY TREND NEWS, the shipping line noted that the new directive is in order to promote continuous safety on the vessels, port environs and personnel.

According to the memo “Ammunitions are not acceptable for import into or export from Nigeria, All Class 7 (Radioactive material) cargoes are not acceptable or allowed into Nigerian ports (Apapa, Tin Can and Onne).

“All Class 1 (Explosives), Class 2.1 (flammable gases), 2.2 (non-flammable, non-toxic gases) and 2.3 (toxic gases) cargoes require destination approval prior acceptance and confirmation of booking.

“If booking is accepted, please note it is compulsory to effect direct delivery from under-hook, which means you would need to have your truck gated in to pick up the container directly from the vessel.

“Please note that unit(s) would be retained on board all through vessel operations and noncompliance and/or customer default will result in units being returned to origin port of load and all costs (freight, operational, fines etc.) transferred to the customer” it stated
