Stop Cursing Nigeria, Pray for Our Leaders, UACC President Urges Nigerians

President and General Overseer of the United Apostolic Church of Christ (UACC), Rev. Dr. James Bayo Owoyemi has called on Nigerians including traditional and religious leaders to stop issuing curses on the government, rather, they should always pray for government so as to ensure peace in the land.

He also stated that there is need for synergy between religious leaders and the traditional rulers in committing Nigeria into the hands of God.

Rev Owoyemi stated this at a press conference after the 56th Supreme Executive Council Meeting which held at the UACC General Headquarters in Lagos on Saturday.

The clergy also urged the federal government to be proactive in solving the insecurity and banditry and kidnappings going on around the country and shun nepotism. He added that the government have not done enough.

He however said that Nigerians should stop cursing the government because by so doing, the situation would only get worse. He said that in other climes, citizens pray for God to bless their country.

“Nigerians condemn our President and condemn our nation, but people in the developed world pray for their nation. The leaders at the helm of affairs are not perfect, they are humans, the slogan should be that God bless Nigeria” he said

While condemning the insecurity and kidnappings going on around Nigeria, Rev Owoyemi stated that even men of God are falling victims.

“Unfortunately, the men of God are not spared, we have seen instances where they are being kidnapped, killed and even fallen victim of all these ill acts.

“We want to appeal to the government to be proactive, it was not like this before, it is obvious that government is playing its own part in tackling the insecurity in the country, but at the same time, they have not done enough.

“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of the citizens. We on our part as citizens, it is our responsibility to corporate with the government.

“I want appeal to Nigerians and religious leaders out there, you don’t have to be cursing the government, they are human beings, the Bible instructed us to pray for our leaders.
At the same time, we want the government to be more proactive and shun nepotism.

“Nigeria is our country, we don’t have anywhere to go, and Nigeria will not collapse, it would remain.

“The government should seek the face of God. If you see that your efforts are not good enough, you have to seek the face of God.

“Let us educate our children on the need to pray for Nigeria. Nigeria is a country of God and the peace of God would reign.

“There is power in the tongue, so collectively if we pray that God bless Nigeria, and a bad leader wants to change what God had started, God by himself would remove that leader.

“However, we cannot expect God to bless a country that we are cursing” he said.

Rev Owoyemi stated that the UACC church started in 1965 and it was founded and named by the holy spirit with its Mission headquarters is situated in Akure, Ondo State.

On 14th of November 2019, he was consecrated and appointed General Overseer of the church.

Immediately after assumption of office, he had embarked on visitation to all branches of the UACC in Ondo State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ogun State, Ekiti State, Lagos and Benin Republic.

According to him, the visitation to all churches have now been concluded.

“During our visits, we visited the traditional rulers of these states, we discovered that there are issues going on in Nigeria that beyond human power and understanding, only God has the solution to these issues”

“During our visit to the traditional rulers, we discovered that our thoughts are almost the same because they are also leaders of people and they are not happy with what is going on in the country.
