Activities At Onne Port Crippled as Youths Protest Bad Access Roads

There is palpable anxiety at Onne Port in Rivers State as the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) in conjunction with other pan-Ogoni groups protest Federation Government’s abandonment and deplorable state of the popular East-West Road in Rivers State.

The Ogoni axis of the East West road is very strategic as it is the only link to the Port Harcourt Refining Company, Indorama Petrochemicals, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) Onne, Oil and Gas Free Zone Onne and about 300 multinational companies.

There are indications of Port congestion at the Onne Port as major shipping line, Maersk Line in a customer advisory sighted by DAILY TREND NEWS, announced that it has shut down its Onne Office, effective Tuesday 27th.

The protest “Occupy East West Road kick starts today, Tuesday 27th July, 2021.

In an invitation titled “Mother of All Protest” sighted by DAILY TREND NEWS and signed by Mr Legborsi Yamaabana, the President-General,
Ogoni Youth Federation, the group said it has earlier issued a 14-days ultimatum to the Federal Government but it failed to act on the youth demands.

“Upon the expiration of the 14-days altimatum to the Federal Government during Ogoni Youths’ warning protest at Aleto Bridge by the Ogoni Youth Federation to inter alia commence the reconstruction of the deplorable Ogoni section of the road East West, together with four (4) flyovers at: Akpajo, Aleto, Alesa and Onne junctions respectively”

“After due consultation with various groups and critical stakeholders, the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) in conjunction with other pan-Ogoni groups hereby invites the media, friends of Ogoni and Ogoni people from all Kingdoms, towns and local government areas to a ‘MOTHER OF ALL PROTESTS’ over the dilapidated state of the East West road”

“The Ogoni axis of the East West road is the only link to the Port Harcourt Refining Company, Indorama Petrochemicals, Nigerian Port Authority Onne, Oil and Gas Free Zone Onne and about 300 multinational companies, despite the aforesaid and the huge economic value of the road, the Federal Government has refused to fix it, thereby infusing hardship on our people and commuters”
