Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the restructuring document is a complete Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all Operations and Enforcement departments of NIMASA, including ISPS Unit.

Our correspondent also gathered that the restructuring was midwifed and guided by a young lawyer and Director at the agency, Mrs. Aisha Jidda with the support and encouragement of the Director General, Dr Bashir Jamoh and the Executive Director Operations of NIMASA, Mr Shehu Ahmed.

However, speaking to Vanguard Maritime Report, NIMASA’s Assistant Director, Mr. Adebayo Olatoke, said the agency is making efforts to ensure Nigerian ports are secured from every internal and external security breaches.

Olatoke also said that the recent restructuring in NIMASA has brought about the appointment of a Director and three Assistant Directors who will be in charge of Ports, Ships and Off-shore.

He explained that the restructuring will also assist NIMASA to review its port security processes adding that the Port Security Officers must be on their toes to ensure 24 hours protection in and around the ports and other port facilities.

He said: “Anything that will help our collective system should be pushed up to assist the system and I will cascade it to a higher authority.’’
