The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced withdrawal of its membership of the amalgamation of truck owners association known as;
Council of Maritime Trade Unions and Association (COMTUA).

In a statement signed by Comrade Adewale Adeyanju in Lagos on Monday and sent to DAILY TREND NEWS, the union said it was constrained to take this decision due to breach in agreement as mutually agreed to by all members unions and associations.

Part of the agreement reached between MWUN and COMTUA was to join forces in order to stem the negative tide of gridlock on Nigerian port access roads and to speak in one voice on matters relating to the development of the maritime sector.

“Unfortunately, this understanding has been breached by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by their consistent action of going outside agreed limits to write frivolous petition against our members and MWUN, resulting in unwarranted Police action against our members and the subsequent embarrassment occasioned to the union MWUN”

“This tendency of NURTW and its officials to wantonly peddle faisehood and issue unfounded petition against member Unions and association of COMTUA whom she is supposedly collaborating with, to foster solidarity has caused us immeasurable humiliation and placed us in an awkward situation which we no longer can endure”

“We therefore see no reason why we should stay on in a collaboration that conflicts with the principles and processes which forms the basis for which it was set up in the first place”

Comrade Adeyanju wished COMTUA well in its future endeavours.

COMTUA is almagamation of different truck associations and unions in the maritime sector who come together as one body to address the menace of gridlock bedevilling the sector.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the group is Mr.Ogbogo Aloga, while Co-Chairman of the BOT is Prince Adewale Adeyanju.
