Barely three months that he assumed duties as the Area Controller of Apapa Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Compt Yusuf Malanta has succeeded in blocking all trade loopholes which were previously being exploited by importers to cheat Federal Government of drivable revenue.

The Comptroller while speaking recently in Lagos narrated how he made N20billion revenue from issuing Demand Notices (DN) alone.

The Nigeria Customs Service usually issue Demans Notices to recover revenue that may be lost to under-valuation or under-declaration of goods by importers.

Recall that Compt Mallanta also stated recently that the command under his watch recorded an unprecedented N159.5billion revenue between January-March 2021.

Speaking, the Apapa Customs boss said “I made N20billion just on demand notice alone.
Everyday my target is exceeding, and by the grace of God I will superceed my target for 2021, even more than expectations”
Explaining how he was able to block the loopholes, he said “There are some items that were not paying duty before, the importers carry them under zero duty, but now, we have exposed it and gave it the right HS Code and we collect the right duty”

“Another factor responsible is the fast cargo turnaround, we facilitate honest trade, so, the faster people are taking delivery of their goods out of the port, the more cargoes come in”

“I want to use this medium to extend my profound appreciation to our esteemed stakeholders, sister government agencies in the port and the media for their immeasurable support”

“We have indeed improved on our existing collaboration in the areas of information sharing and other areas that will further make it difficult for perpetrators of trade malpractice to succeed in our port”

“We have also achieved enhanced Customs Community Relations through meetings and strategic engagements with various stakeholders including importers, licensed customs agents, media and others who interface with Customs in trade supply chain”

Compt Malanta urged Officers and men of the Command to remain focused and steadfast in discharging their assigned responsibilities at any given time.
