DAILY TREND NEWS gathered exclusively that the victim was shot on his leg by customs officers who were chasing him in an imported vehicle just to collect bribe.

“The victim was taken to the hospital yesterday and the leg was amputated this morning” a clearing agent alleged in a message forwarded to our correspondent.

On getting rumours of the amputated, our correspondent learnt that his colleagues went to the PTML terminals at Tin-Can Island Port today and paralysed commercial activities.

All customs officers were reportedly chased out of their offices.

Eye witneses confirmed that the Nigeria customs subsequently invited Mobile policemen to the scene at Tin Can to restore peace.

One of the eye witnesses said “Work has stopped, movement has been impeded, sporadic shooting is ongoing and there is pandemonium right now”

Vice President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Dr kayode Farinto was reported to have taken up the matter with the leaderahip of the Nigeria Customs Service since yesterday. According to association sources, the Customs officers wanted to raid the Tin Can Port earlier in the day but the ANLCA Vice President intervened for peace to reign.

When he was contacted by DAILY TREND NEWS, Dr Farinto however debunked reports that the clearing agents leg was amputated. He said the leg was treated and dressed up.

According to him, the association is having a meeting with the customs FOU tomorrow and that the trigger-happy officer must be provided and sanctioned accordingly.

Recall that yesterday, Wednesday at Mile 2, the Nigerian Customs officers from Federal Operations Unut (FOU) Zone A, Strike force and CG squard attempted to apprehend a 2019 model Toyota RAV4.

The said vehicle has been duly exited from PTML terminal at Mile 2 after payment of customs duty and all other taxes.

But customs wanted to stop them for another round of check and it resulted to several gun shots and the victim was shot in the leg.

Public Relations Officer, FOU Zone A, Theophilus Duniya, had told newsmen yesterday that it was a mob action against the officers who intercepted the vehicle.

He said some urchins had attempted to prevent the officers from carrying out their lawful duty when they tried to take away the impounded vehicle to the office.

“The urchins pelted the officers with stones and had attempted to snatch a rifle from one of the officers. One of the guns fired in the struggle to take away the rifle from the officers.

“In the confusion that followed, the mob took the injured person away while the officers escaped from the scene,” he added
