Barely 2-weeks of Implementation, Fraudsters Hack NPA Electronic Call-up System

…Nigerians Call For Special Barcode On Call-up Slip

There are indications that barely two weeks after the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) began Implementation of the electronic call-up system for trucks into Nigerian ports, fraudsters have started infiltrating the system to print fake call-up slips for truckers.

The NPA has also said that it is investigating cases of some truck drivers caught with fake slips of the newly launched electronic call-up system for trucks entering Nigerian seaports.

The Authority through its official twitter handle @nigerianports on Tuesday noted that some unscrupulous elements have started counterfeiting the electronic call-up slip also known as ETO slip.

In the tweet, NPA noted that this was the major factor responsible for the initial confusion on the major roads within the first week of commencement of the e-call up system.

“We are currently investigating some cases where truck drivers were caught with counterfeited e-call up slip in order to by-pass security and officials saddled with the responsibility but we are on top of the situation. We will beat them to their game.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians responding to the message expressed shock that barely two weeks after the NPA electronic call-up system was launched fraudsters have started beating the system.

IA Abiola @Abiolala expressed surprise that “They have already started doing 419, barely a month into the system usage. Trust some Nigerians to use illegal means not to do the right thing”

Susan @SusanHenshaw replying to NPA urged the agency to put in place hard consequences for defaulters. She said “If there are no hard consequences Nigerians will never respect boundaries or follow directions . These people should suffer serious sanctions”

“The only way to curb that is simple, get a QR Code scanner, let the QR be scanned at all check points, this won’t take 5 sec, saves the agony of any investigation”

General Olutoye @_DonRo urged NPA to ensure that the call-up slips carry a unique barcode to be scanned at the point of entry, that way, fake slips are always checked and it can be traced back to where it was generated
