ANLCA Tasks Tin Can Island Customs, Ports & Cargo Terminal On 24Hours Port Operation

The Tin Can Island Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has tasked the Nigeria Customs Service and the Ports & Cargo Terminal on the need to extend their operations till night hours.

Public Relations Officer of the chapter, Alhaji Idowu Owoade told DAILY TREND NEWS that this were some of the resolutions reached at the end of an emergency stakeholders meeting held at the Tin Can Customs office on Tuesday.

Presently, he lamented that Ports and Cargo Terminal do not operate 24hrs operations, he alleged that the terminal closes for operation by 10pm daily.

According to him, this is largely due to the fact that Customs officers do not operate 24hours. According to him, if customs upgrades its operations to 24hours, Port and Cargo Terminal would also be willing to comply.

“If the custom officers are assigned for night operations, just like what is being practiced at TICT, I believe Port and Cargo Terminal would agree to operate 24hrs, infact, their representative at the meeting also promised to inform the management on our decisions”

“There was an urgent meeting held at Tincan custom conference room in respect of the petition written to custom by the chairman of ANLCA Tincan and his team regarding all d shortcomings of Ports and Cargo Terminal management, the terminal operator was represented by three of their top management staff.

“It was agreed that another meeting will be arranged which will include MD NPA, Customs Controller, Group Chairman Ports and Cargo Terminal, ANLCA Chairman and other top stakeholders and leaders in the industry”

“The Deputy Comptroller who represented the Area Controller promised to make terminal operators engage in 24 hours services unlike what is been operating presently” Owoade said
