SON Retreat: Dakuku Peterside Invited to Share Experience On how He Revived NIMASA in 4-years
The Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Farouk Salim has invited the former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr Dakuku Peterside to share his strategies that turned around NIMASA from a near-bankrupt Agency into a money-spinner for the country.
Peterside is expected to deliver the keynote address at SON’s four-day Leadership Strategy Retreat in Calabar, Cross River State.
The standards regulatory body in Nigeria said the retreat, to have top leadership experts in the country, is in its desire to build on the foundation laid by previous managements. It shall also aim at repositioning SON for greater effectiveness and efficiency.
In a release to newsmen on Thursday, SON said that Nigeria’s leadership coach and foremost public turnaround expert, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, shall deliver the Keynote Speech at the event.
According to Farouk Salim, the DG/CEO of SON, the organization would be honoured to have Dr. Peterside join SON at the agenda-setting four-day retreat.
The Retreat shall run from February 9 to 12.
“We look forward to hearing Dakuku Peterside’s story of how he took NIMASA from an underperforming regulatory agency to a world-class institution. We will have the privilege to learn of the philosophy that inspired him and the methods that gave him and his team exceptional results”, Salim said in the statement.
Dr. Peterside shall be speaking on “SON: Growing an effective and efficient regulatory organization”, which SON disclosed, would be the theme of the retreat.
The organisation also stated that the strategy retreat would be the first major outing in a series of agenda-setting programmes to reposition the agency and set her on the path of becoming the foremost standards organization in Africa. “Under the new leadership, the DG is determined to make SON a role model and safeguard Nigerians from the risk of substandard products whether manufactured in the country or imported into the country”, it said adding that “SON plans to ramp up enforcement of standards in the next few weeks and make Nigeria hostile for producers of substandard products.”
Dr. Dakuku Peterside, author of the book, ‘Strategic Turnaround’, will be joined by other great organizational development experts at the retreat, which is facilitated by SAMUELSON B. V. Professional Services, a leading consulting firm in the country.
The other resource persons expected at the retreat are Tony Epelle, Managing Consultant & CEO of SAMUELSON, Dr. Eric Ighalo, a renowned trainer & facilitator, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, a former DG of SON, Barr. Osuagwu Sunny Uwanakwa, Chairman of SON Review Committee set up by the Salim led administration, and Elijah Affi, Managing Director, Take-Out Media.
The four-day retreat will deal with issues like goal setting, art & science of execution for regulatory agencies, key performance indicators and stakeholder management, among other issues.
