The Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transporters Senior Staff (NMNOWTSSA) has confirmed that Nigerian seafarers are now being paid their wages in line with international guidelines.
Secretary General of the union, Comrade John Aliakwe Okpono stated this in a press statement to mark the 365days in office of the present executives of the union headed by its National President, Engr Bob Joseph Yousuo.
The union scribe noted that just under one year, Eng Yousuo has concluded so many Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBAs) for better welfare of Nigeria Seafarers.
Comrade Okpono said the President since assumption of office has also ensured a cordial relationship with stakeholders, including Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Master Mariners, Marine Engineering society of Nigeria, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the International Transport Federation (ITF)
Other achievements under Eng Yousuo includes “Changing the old Secretariat to a better look immediately he resume office: curtains blind, paintedi it, replace all the obsolute facilities with modern ones”
“Increase in staff salaries, increase in the association’s membership in ITF to have more voice and delegates”
“Audited the association Account up till date. Introduce cooperative to better the life of staff. Relocate the Head office to Apapa GRA, the hub of Maritime activities.
Gotten a modern befitting office with modern facilities”
