Customs Denies Nothernisation Agenda in Appointment of 2 DCG, 5 ACG’s

The Nigeria Customs Service has denied accusations of tribalism in the service, this is following allegations of nothernisation agenda levelled against the customs management on social media by maritime critics.
The service had announced appointments of senior officers including two new acting Deputy Comptrollers General of Customs (DCG), five acting Assistant Comptrollers General of Customs (ACG) and effected the redeployment of five senior officers.
Stakeholders however criticised the appointment, after observing that all the officers are from the Northern Nigeria, describing it as a “Jihad”
In a swift response, National Public Relations Officer of Customs, Joseph Attah debunked the insinuations, saying that senior positions in Nigeria Customs are distributed to all zones of the federation.
Attah said “Those who do not know and will not ask questions are already shouting ” tribalism” seeing the names of those appointed to the ranks of Ag DCGs and Ag, ACGs”
“These exalted ranks at management level are evenly distributed to all the zones of the country.
Vacancy can only be made available through retirement, resignation or any natural cause”
“Replacement can only come from same zone that has the vacancy.
So if those occupying such positions from a particular zone have not retired, there can not be fresh appointment coming from there. Let’s understand this please” he said
Attah had in a statement on Thursday announced the new DCGs as; Abdullahi Babani (Human Resources Development) and Mohammed Boyi (Training and Doctrine).
The new ACGs include Saidu Galadima (ICT/Modernization), S.M. Modibbo (Zone ‘B’ HQ), Uba Mohammed (Enforcement, Intelligence and Investigation), Hamza Gummi (Tariff & Trade), and Usman Dakingari (Doctrine & Development).
Those redeployed include DCG David Chikan from TRADOC to FATS; Comptroller Mohammed Auwal from Port Harcourt 1 to Port Harcourt 2, Comptroller Yusuf Garba from Kebbi to Port Harcourt 1, Comptroller Hafiz Kalla from FATS to Kebbi, and Comptroller Bello Jibo from Bauchi/Gombe to Seme.
