FEC Approves 4 New Patrol Boats for Customs, NPA Gets N683M Approval for 19 Operational Vehicles

Even though the Nigerian Customs Service is yet to put its existing gun Boats to judicious use, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has again approved the purchase of four additional patrol boats for the service.

This is even as the FEC approved the sum of N683 million to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the purchase of nine extra operational vehicles.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, told newsmen that the approval was granted after a virtual meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Amaechi also disclosed that it was the first time in four years that the NPA was getting such approval.
The sum approved was for the purchase of 19 vehicles, the Minister said.

Also briefing journalists at the end of the FEC meeting, Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed said the Customs boats have been approved to improve its patrol on Nigerian waterways to curb smuggling.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) also approved a revision of the 2020 Budget from N10.594 trillion to N10.523 trillion, reflecting a N71.5 billion downwards review.

She said an amendment to the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF for 2020-2022 was approved.
