COVID-19: Customs CG Threatens to Sanction Any Officer That Abscent from Work

Notwithstanding the “stay at home” directive of the Federal Government to workers from levels1 to 12, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Ali has threatened to deal with any officer that leaves his or her duty post.
In order to cub the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Federal Government had ordered public servants stay at home. Agencies like Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) NIMASA, Shippers Council have since directed their workers to stay home.
In a circular number HQ/012/ 2020 with reference number NCS/ADM/MGT/015/S.21/C/Vol.15 issued to all commands by Col Ali, signed by Assistant Comptroller General in charge of Customs Headquarters, ACG Fatade AOB, he said that Customs Service is a paramilitary outfit that deals with national security.
The circular sighted by DAILY TREND NEWS reads that “Reference is made to the Head of Service of the Federation’s Circular no HCSF/109/S. 1/1/100 dated 23rd March 2020 on the above subject, you are to be guided that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is an essential organ of the Federal Government whose daily activities cannot be compromised for any reason.
“Therefore, be reminded and forewarned that the above Circular does not bind on the activities and personnel of NCS”
“You are to note that the Service is a Para-military organization that carries out the functions of national security and also generates revenue for the Federal Government on daily basis among other functions”
“Consequently, you are to be informed that ALL officers and men of the Service are expected to remain at their respective duty post unfailingly. Failure to comply with the above directive shall attract severe disciplinary action in accordance with extant provisions”
“Furthermore, it is pertinent for all personnel to adhere strictly to personal hygiene including the frequent washing of hands with soap and water”
