President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of members of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

In a statement on Tuesday, Sabiu Zakari, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, explained that the presidency named Honourable Asita as Chairman of the Governing Board of NIMASA, while Governing Board of NPA is headed by Akin Ricketts.

Mr. Ricketts, a former Cross River State Commissioner for Information in 2013 was accused of certificate forgery.

The allegation was levelled against him in a petition by a Calabar-based law firm, Okimasi Ojong & Co to the then Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, demanding an investigation into the certificates being paraded by the commissioner.

He was the All Progressive Congress  (APC) Cross Rivers State Central Senatorial District candidate in 2019. Before venturing into politics,  Ricketts was an international businessman.

Other members of the NPA board are; Muhammed Koko, Executive Director; Prof. Idris Abdulkadir, Executive Director and Onari Brown, Executive Director.

Mr Ghazali Muhammed, Sen. John Akpanuoedehe, Sen. Binta Masi Garba, Alh. Mustapha Dutse and Abdulwahab Adeshina are also members of the board of NPA.

Meanwhile, Hadiza Usman remained the Managing Director of the authority.

In 2016, Rivers State Executive Council headed by Governor Nyesom Wike directed the Attorney General of the State to prosecute the 2015 All Progressives Congress ( APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate , Honourable Asita Okorie for the murder of an NYSC member at Akinima in Ahoada West Local Government Area during the March 19, 2016 rerun legislative elections .

Hon Asita now heads NIMASA board even as Bashir Jamoh, took over from Dakuku Peterside, whose tenure had expired as Director-General of the agency.

Other members of the governing board of NIMASA to include, Victor Ochei, Executive Director (Cabotage); Chudi Offordile, Executive Director (Admin & Finance); Shehu Ahmed, Executive Director (Operations); Adekola Adefemi, Muhammed Abubakar, and Hassan Mahmud, as Members of NIMASA board.

According to the permanent secretary of the transport ministry, the members of both boards would be inaugurated by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Friday, March 20, 2020.
