Police Tasks Shippers Council on CTN, Says It would Curb Criminality At Port

The newly appointed Assistant Inspector General, (AIG) Marine Command, Muhammad Uba Kura has called on the Nigerian Shippers Council to revive the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) saying that the scheme would help to curb criminalities in importation of cargoes.
The ICTN was introduced safeguard the seaports from dangerous weapons and other prohibited cargoes. The scheme was managed by the Shippers Council but it was abruptly suspended five years ago by the federal government.
Speaking during a visit of the Management of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, led by the Director, Consumer Affairs Department, Chief Cajetan C. Agu, to his office, Uba Kura opined that if revived, the Cargo Tracking Note has the potential to curb the activities of criminals.
He assured NSC of the full support of the Nigerian Police Force.
Muhammad Uba Kura, was the Former Police Commissioner at Nigerian Port Authority before being elevated to the position of AIG Marine Command.
He said the Nigerian Police is positioned to fight and reduce, to the barest minimum, the activities of criminals who make the mistake of operating anywhere within the coverage area of the Marine Command.
Speaking earlier, leader of the Shippers Council delegation Chief Cajetan C. Agu congratulated the police AIG on his appointment and also enlightened him about NSC’s activities as Port Economic Regulator.
Agu highlighted the Council’s roles in ensuring Ease of Doing Business in the Maritime Industry, some of which include freight forwarders rate negotiation, recovering monies from imposed charges and enforcement, amongst others.
He urged Uba to visit the ES/CEO at NSC Head Quarters to further cement the relationship between the Council and the Maritime Police.
