The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has rolled out activities that would characterise its 20th anniversary billed to hold in Lagos on 3rd of December 2019.
As part of the activities, the association at a press briefing in Apapa Lagos yesterday revealed that the association would pay a visit to Apapa General Hospital and offset bill of some patients in the hospital.
The Chairman NAGAFF @20 organising committee, Mr. Toochukwu Ezisi, who addressed journalists in Apapa on Thursday, assured that the association also have plans of visiting prisoners though he added that this will come after the program.
Explaining further, he said offsetting hospital bills for patients who can’t pay is not a common thing and this was why NAGAFF chose to do it.
“We looked at it that yes going to the motherless babies hone us nice. But we don’t remember those people in the hospitals who had been discharged but can’t pay their hospital bills”
“That is part of charity we looked at it, it is not common if not because if our time frame, we intended going to the prisons too”
He said a lot of people are languishing at different prisons for a long time just because of N5000 bail.
“Because when you get to the prisons you will see people that have been there for years because they don’t have N5000 or N10000 for bail”
“So we intended to do that but because of time frame we couldn’t achieve that but it is still in the pipeline. But we will definitely do it”
Meanwhile the former national president of NAGAFF, Dr. Eugene Nweke, said visiting the less privileges is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which the association has been doing over the time.
“You know 20years is a mile stone we have been doing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). So it have been a tradition in NAGAFF at the end of every year, we do this as a way of showing love”
On the reason why the association decided to take the CSR to hospitals he said.
“But at 20 we decided to take our CSR to outside and it also a pointer that after 20, our CSR should be felt not just by us alone but outsiders. So it is just to say that after 20, there is a new direction that NAGAFF is going”
“We have written to the Managing Director (MD) to give us the list of the patients and we the committee we have looked into their problems and the bills and we have decided on the ones to handle” he concluded.
