Lagos Commissions Uber Taxi on Waterways
…As NIWA Gets New Lagos Area Manager
In order to facilitate intermodal transportation, the Lagos State Government yesterday commissioned a water taxi network operated by transport technology outfit; Uber.The project was rolled off at the Falomo Victoria Island jetty of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA)
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu who took a ride on the Uber boat, disclosed that the initiative would make life better for over 20million residents of the mega city.
This is even as the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has appointed a new Lagos Area Manager.
Her name is Engineer Sarat Lara Braimah.
She took over from Eng Sambo Muazu in a general shakeup of the agency.
The Lagos governor, Sanwo Olu at the commissioning of the Uber Water Taxi, craved the support of the federal government and the private sector in the quest to find the critical solution to addressing mass but efficient movement of people, goods and services.
He assured that Lagos State under his watch would make the welfare of Lagos residents his priority, adding that the Uber challenge is one critical response to the development.
“Safe, secured and fast movement of the people is a socioeconomic pivot of my administration and we have proven it is possible with this initiative today”
Apart from Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Frederick Oladeinde, and Lola Kassim of Uber West Africa, others who joined the governor to celebrate the event are Lagos Area Manager of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Engineer Sarat Lara Braimah, Water Transportation Marchant, Dupe lawale of Texas Connection and General Manager, LASWA, Olabode Emmanuel
