Stakeholders Canvass Patronage for Kaduna Dry Port

Stakeholders in the maritime industry yesterday converged in Kaduna State to canvass patronage for the Kaduna Inland Dry Port which was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

Speaking at the One-Day seminar, National President of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Tony Iju Nwabunike who is Director of KIDP reiterates that establishment of the Inland Container Depots in the hinterland was informed by the need to reduce the congestion in Lagos ports and provide relief for the busy Apapa road.

He  spoke extensively on how Kaduna Dry Port have brought Port activities closer to the people of Northern Nigeria and urged participants to take advantage of the unique opportunity of the facility to improve their economic well being of Nigeria in general and the region in particular. 

According to him, the dry port has capacity to generate over 5,000 direct employments.

Recently, maritime stakeholders lamented to DAILY TREND NEWS that transportation of cargoes to the Kaduna Dry Port was too expensive.

Due to poor rail network, most of the cargoes going to the port are still being conveyed by road.

This has however hampered the dry port’s full-scale operations.

According to them, the problem of high freight cost could only be tackled if the Nigerian Railway Corporation could provide enough locomotives and wagons for easy transportation of cargoes by rail from the seaports to the dry port.
