Nigerian Police Bursts Syndicate Importing Arms, Armunition from Libya, Burkina Faso

A special intervention team of the Nigerian Police code named ‘Operation Puff Adder’ led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has arrested arms dealers smuggling thousands of rifles and ammunition into Nigeria from Libya and Burkina Faso through Benin Republic and Niger Republic. 
Over 6,000 rounds of Ak47 ammunition and several Ak47 Rifles and pistols were recovered.
Suspects that were arrested also confessed to importing and selling of rifles and ammunition to kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals in Nigeria.

DAILY TREND recalls that the commissioner of police Lagos police command, Cp. Zubairu Muazu had two weeks ago launched Operation Puff Adder in Lagos.

Launching the operation Puff Adder on Thursday, at the command headquarters, Cp Muazu said it was a special operation introduced by the acting Inspector General of police, Igp. Mohammed Adamu Abubakar code-named Operation Puff Adder, aimed at predominating and reclaiming the public space from heinous criminal element that are bent on threatening the nation’s internal security and order.

He said officers and men for the operations were drawn from police mobile force, Tactical Units, Criminal intelligence bureau, Criminal investigation department, Raid Response Squad, Taskforce and conventional policemen.

The men, he said are charged to ensure zero tolerance of all form of criminality and deal decisively with criminal elements in Lagos state.

Cp warned that tough times await those who chose the path of crime in the state.
