Keyamo’s Aide Sustain Grassroots Support in Ogun State
•••As Governor Dapo Abiodun Alma Mater Holds Inter-House Sports in Iperu-Remo
The St. James’ Anglican Primary School, Iperu-Remo, alma mater of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has held its annual Inter-House Sports Competition, with school leadership emphasising the role of grassroots sports in building character, discipline and academic performance among learners.
The event which was supported by the Special Assistant on Digital Media to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Hon. Gbenga Saka, was graced with the presence of dignitaries and parents.

Hon. Saka Olugbenga, who has continued to demonstrate commitment to grassroots sport and academic advancement of the youth Iperu-Remo and the Ogun State in general supported the year sporting event as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative support from the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN.
It would be recalled that in the previous year, Hon. Saka Olugbenga donated school uniforms to pupils of the Iperu-Remo to further enhance learning and strentening his commitment to education, youth and women empowerment and capacity building.
Speaking at the event, the Sports Master, Omoba Adebanjo Adetola, described the competition as more than a showcase of athletic ability.
“Today is more than a display of athletic ability; it is a celebration of discipline, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship,” he said.
He stressed that the school remains deliberate in nurturing confident, responsible and resilient learners, noting that sports and physical education play a critical role in youth development by promoting teamwork, leadership and healthy competition.
Omoba Adebanjo also acknowledged the contributions of distinguished supporters who funded various houses in the competition, including the executive Governor Of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the Patron Of Yellow House, Sir, (Chief) Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu, Hon. Saka Olugbenga, Dr. Tiwalade Adeniyi, General Manager, ESG, IPRFZE, Ogun State, Alhaji Taofeek Odubitan, CEO, D-Bay Hotel, Iperu-Remo, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Afolabi Olawale.
He described their support as a reflection of strong home-school partnership in nurturing excellence and confidence among pupils.
The Head of School, Mrs. Akinwunmi Sakirat stated that the inter-house sports competition aligns with the institution’s tripod focus on academic excellence and talent discovery.
“Today’s event is another medium for us to discover new talents in sports. Our learners went through rigorous training sessions in various sporting activities to prepare adequately for this event,” she said.
She further noted that the school’s consistent record in external competitions, including science and mathematics contests as well as public speaking engagements, demonstrates its commitment to producing globally competitive learners.
Hon. Wale Oyekoya (BAMA) encouraged the pupils to see themselves as champions, while Mrs. Jamiu Asimi, wife of the Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, advised participants to regard one another as colleagues rather than rivals.
“You are all winners and no one is a loser. Give your best and rely on God for the rest,” she advised.
The competition featured track and field events, football matches and other sporting activities, with organisers expressing optimism that the current edition would strengthen and institutionalise a vibrant sporting culture within the school.
