Shipping Charges Hike: ANLCA Says It is not Yet Over Until…

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has said that it’s standoff with Shipping lines over the recent increase in charges is not yet over until the outcome of a stakeholders meeting which has been slated for 21st of January by the Nigerian Shippers Council.

Addressing members of the association after a closed door meeting with management of MSC Shipping on Tuesday, Zonal Coordinator West of ANLCA, Alhaji Femi Anifowose acknowledged that the Shippers Council and MSC Shipping has agreed to suspend the charges, but warned that the association’s next action would depend on the outcome of the upcoming stakeholders meeting.

He also informed the clearing agents that MSC Shipping has agreed to refund anyone who has paid the increment and to cancel the two days demurrages slammed on cargoes due to the protest by Agents at the shipping company since Monday.

He assured that the task force of the association would be on ground to assist members in any challenges they might encounter in the course of doing their businesses.

“They have agreed to remove the two days demurrages, and the Shippers Council has given us their word that this would be done.
“We are not done yet, the outcome of the meeting slated for 21st of this month at Shippers Council would determine if we continue with the protest or not” Anifowose stated.
