COWA Under Kikelomo Adeniyi Changes Strategy, Eyes Investment Opportunities from Brazil, Creation of Research Centre

The National President of Customs Wives Association (COWA) wife of Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi has disclosed that the association is now going global and currently working on getting investment opportunities from Brazil, as well as establishing a research training centre for the COWA members.
Adeniyi disclosed this on Sunday at the COWA empowerment program organized by the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ at the Customs Training college Ikeja-Lagos.
She noted that the association is changing its focus by going beyond the local level, and positioning itself in line with the new position of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as the Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) council.
According to the COWA President, the association is also aligning with Nigerian First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu on the renewed hope agenda.
On the new focus of the COWA, she said “We want to go beyond giving sewing machines and catering facilities. We are going green, we will soon be learning how to recycle so many things.
We want to get investment opportunities from Brazil, establish a research training centre for the COWA”
“We need to stop talking local, but go international especially now that the Comptroller General is the Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) council” she said
Adeniyi equally charged wives of customs officers not to be rebellious to their husbands but to remain supportive so that they can achieve the mandates given to them by the government.
She noted that when a woman is empowered, the nation is also empowered.
She also enjoined the members to take special care of their health by ensuring that they run special checks like blood pressure test, sugar test, among others, noting with good health, all other responsibilities can be achieved.
She commended the Area Controller of the FOU A Unit for always being supportive in almost all proposals sent to him.
On his part, Controller of the Unit, Compt Muhammed Shuaibu urged the women to make judicious use of the meager resources provided for them and see themselves as active partners in national development.
Compt Shuaibu assured them that the unit remains deeply committed to expanding the COWA programme, by strengthening its reach and enhancing its capacity to support families.
He noted that together they will continue to build a resilient association that will stand firmly behind the service’s frontline defenders.
He maintained that the empowerment programme is designed to address the economic and social challenges faced by officers’ wives by equipping them with vocational skills, supporting small scale businesses and providing training in makeup, sewing among others.
‘As we all know, the strength of our great institution lies not only in dedication of its members but also in the wellbeing and support of their families” he stated
The highpoint of the event was when several sewing machines, washing machines, catering facilities as well as money were distributed to COWA members, widows and retirees.
