The Apapa Port Division of the Nigerian Police has reactivated it’s
Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in order to ensure security, sanity and a good trading environment around the nation’s premier port.
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Apapa Division, Seidu Dazumi reportedly inaugurated the Apapa PCRC on Wednesday.
The interim executives are; Lawal Owolabi as Chairman, Hon Frank Aliakor as Vice Chairman, Sanni Muhammed as Financial Secretary,
Alhaji Azeez as Treasurer. The Secretary is the Administration officer of the division.
Speaking with DAILY TREND, Vice Chairman of the Apapa PCRC, Hon Frank Aliakor noted that the essence of the PCRC for Apapa port community cannot be overemphasized.
Hon Aliakor who is the Taskforce Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Apapa chapter, noted that the PCRC had existed in Apapa before, but now, it is only being reactivated in order to help sanitize the port community.
“The essence is also to ward-off miscreants from the port area and ensure that there is peace and sanity within the port community”
“As a PCRC member, you are not expected to be a person of questionable character, you must not be someone who is involved in crime. With the insecurities in the country, whenever you see something, you must say something, so that we can secure the port environment” he said
Part of the stakeholders at the port whose business must enjoy a safe environment include the terminal operators, shipping companies, Seafarers, freight forwarders among others.
Hon Aliakor also added that the essence of Police PCRC is to promote and foster friendly relationship and understanding between members of the public and the Police.
DAILY TREND gathered that Apapa Port Division of the police in the past had enjoyed the fruits of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in terms of purchase of equipment and other police projects.
