Congestion: Tin Can Port Terminal Operator Moves 1,200 Imported Vehicles to Bonded Terminals

In order to avoid port congestion at the Tin Can Island Port, a Roll-on Roll-off terminal, Five Star Logistics Terminal has announced that it is moving 1,200 vehicles out of the port to Bonded terminals in Lagos environs.
In a customer notice sighted by DAILY TREND on Wednesday, the Terminal’s management states that 600 units of vehicles each would be moved to Classic 3 Bonded Terminal, and Clarion Bonded Terminal.
According to Five Star Logistics Terminal, this measure is necessary to reduce vessel waiting time and to prevent congestion within the terminals, particularly in view of four vessels expected to arrive at the terminal soon.
“Please be informed that 600 units each will be transferred to Classic and Clarion Terminals, commencing with MV
Silver Ray Voyage 25SR12 and MV Lake Wanaka Voyage 25LW04.
“This measure is necessary to reduce vessel waiting time and to prevent congestion within the terminals, particularly in view of the four vessels expected to arrivel shortly.
We appeal to all agents to know the terminal location of their vehicle before proceeding with their customs documentation” it reads in part
The terminal operator however urged clearing agents who wish to take delivery of their units from Five Star Terminal to forward their step-down letters to the Customer Care Desk prior to the arrival of the vessels.
Reacting to the development, a frontline licensed customs agent, Hon Remilekun Sikiru said there is no congestion at Tin Can Port a the moment, but that the terminal operator was only being proactive.
According to him, ideally, before Terminal operators transfer vehicles to Bonded terminals, it has to be at the request of the cargo owner, but now, the Terminal wants to roll out these vehicles to free up the Terminal for the incoming four vessels loaded with vehicles.
“No congestion at tincan but the management are trying to free up the terminal for the upcoming vessels” he said.
