MWUN’s Comrade Maduabuchukwu Shines At ITF Regional Conference, Tanzania

Comrade Olumba Maduabuchukwu of the Seafarers Unit, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has distinguished himself at the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) Regional Youth Conference held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Maduabuchukwu, who was MWUN’s sole representative at the multi-nation conference, participated alongside young transport-sector activists from Sierra Leone, Ghana, Malawi and other African countries.

The workshop, hosted at the Ramada Wyndham Hotel, focused on capacity building, labour education and strengthening youth leadership within the transport workforce across the continent.
Reports from the conference indicated that Comrade Maduabuchukwu emerged as one of the standout participants during the evaluation exercise, earning commendation for his brilliance, engagement and mastery of the course modules.

Upon his return to Nigeria, he was warmly received by the MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, who praised his performance and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to developing its next generation of leaders. Abi emphasized that exposing young comrades to international training opportunities is essential for building a stronger, future-ready
Union.

“Our goal is to leave behind a better, more vibrant Union. Continuous training of our young comrades will not be a one-off exercise but a sustained tradition in MWUN,” Abi said.
Responding, Comrade Maduabuchukwu expressed deep appreciation to the Union’s leadership for the opportunity to participate in the Tanzania workshop. He described the conference as “an eye opener” that broadened his knowledge and connected him with brilliant young labour activists from across Africa.

He praised the facilitators for their excellence, noting that their sessions were educative, morally uplifting and strategically enriching. According to him, the lessons learned will remain invaluable throughout his career as a maritime labour leader.
