One outstanding feature of the 30th Anniversary of PortNews that will come up at Rockview Hotel on Thursday 6th of November is the conferment of the Port Legend Award on Olori Vicky Haastrup
The ENL Chief Executive and respected port administrator is among only two ladies to be honoured on the occasion.
The Legend Award is reserved for individuals who have left indelible prints of achievements over many years of practice in the industry. She will line up among big stakeholders like Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, Otunba Oyewole Fashawe, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, Piere Luigi Carrodano, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, Prince Olayiwola Shittu to receive the prestigious award.
Anniversary awards will also be presented to the Nigerian Ports Authority( NPA) and Flour Mills of Nigeria( FMN) for their nation building efforts for several decades.
NPA’s endeavours in shipping and property investments overseas predate Nigeria’s independence in 1960. In fact, Nigeria was weaned and nurtured to nationhood on the wealth creamed from wharf trading activities in the Niger Delta, Calabar and Lagos seaside by colonial companies like Royal Niger Companies, Elder Dempster ,Portuguese traders and indigenous traders, farmers and fishermen.
This has evolved overtime into what is now known as the respected Nigerian Ports Authority. Till date, NPA is not only one of the most reliable top revenue generating organizations for the Nigerian government, but a large employer of labour. For this historic feat, NPA will be honoured with the Port Legend Award.
Flour Mills of Nigeria holds an ubiquitous presence in Nigeria. It’s biggest brand, Golden Penny Flour, is inevitable in the menu of every Nigerian household for close to seventy years.
They have also played pioneering and foremost roles in shipping development in Nigeria thus giving skills and jobs to generations of Nigerians overtime. Flour Mills of Nigeria deserves Nigeria’s gratitude. They will be honoured with the Port Legend Award.
Port industry movers and bonded terminals operators like Chief Dennis Okafor, Chief Mike Nwaukoni, Chief Peter Oge Obi, Chief Famous Enearu, Barrister Jacob Muoka and Prince Segun Oduntan, the Deputy President of Association of Nigeria Licenced Customs Agents , will bag awards for their selfless and impactful services to the industry and Nigeria over the last forty years.
An anniversary lecture entitled Nigeria’s Shipping Carriage Gaps, CVFF and the fading Manpower will be delivered by Captain Ladi Olubowale, President of African Ship Owners Association. He will itemize the potentialities locked up in the much vaunted but elusive CVFF.
