The Federal Operations Unit, Zone C, Owerri, of the Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday held a decoration ceremony to recognize 67 officers who received promotions across various ranks within the Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone C, Owerri, Compt Bashir Balogun emphasized that the promotions represent more than routine administrative procedures, stating that the recognition serves as a reward for hard work, loyalty, and commitment to duty.
He noted that the decorated officers now face greater responsibilities and expectations as they advance in their careers within the Nigeria Customs Service.
The ceremony recognized officers across eight different rank categories, with the largest group consisting of 18 officers promoted from Intelligence Corps to Assistant Superintendent of Customs II, and 17 officers advancing from Assistant Superintendent of Customs II to Assistant Superintendent of Customs I.
The promotion breakdown included three officers elevated to Deputy Comptroller from Assistant Comptroller, one officer promoted from Chief Superintendent of Customs to Assistant Comptroller, and varying numbers across other rank categories.
In his address, Compt Balogun conveyed congratulations from the Comptroller General of Customs and the Service’s management team to all promoted officers.
“I urge you to see this as both a privilege
and a challenge. The Federal Operations Unit is a critical arm of the Service, and the nation expects us to continue strengthening anti-smuggling operations, revenue recovery, and trade facilitation..
“Let me remind you that with promotion comes higher responsibility. You must therefore uphold the core values of the Nigeria Customs Service-integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
The Comptroller expressed appreciation to the families, friends, and colleagues of the newly promoted officers, whose encouragement and sacrifices have contributed to today’s success.
“And for those who didn’t get the promotion,I encourage you to be
strong and prepare harder next time” Compt Balogun charged.
