MWUN Confirms Comrade Oniha Erazua as Secretary General

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi on Friday, the 13th of August 2025, confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantial Secretary-General of the Union after six months of his acting capacity.
The confirmation of the appointment was announced during a joint session of both National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Union.
Comrade Oniha rose through the ranks as Assistant Secretaries-General (ASG’s) before he was promoted to Deputy Secretary-General (DSG), where he combined the portfolios of Training & Research, Education, and Media before his present designation, after the retirement of his predecessor, Comrade Felix Akingboye.
The Edo State born Scribe of the Union holds a Master’s Degree from the prestigious premier University of Ibadan; and has had classroom stint as a tutor before taking appointment with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.
Others who were promoted and confirmed are; Olungwe Fred Dagogo, formerly Organising Secretary; a position he held diligenty before his promotion as General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch of the Union. Comrade Dagogo is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Portharcourt.
Comrade Joseph Ekwere appointment was also confirmed as General Secretary of the Nigeria Ports Authority ( NPA) Branch of the Union. He rose from the position of Computer Secretary, a position he held diligenty under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch before his present designation. Ekwere holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos. The there Scribes have since been congratulated by the Union.
