Coming on the heels of the recent inauguration of the Governing Boards for key agencies in the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), and a former governing board member of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN)
Dr Billy Gillis-Harry has called on the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola to inaugurate the governing board of the CRFFN in order to set the council on the right part for optimal performance.

Oyetola recently inaugurated the board of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)

The CRFFN governing board comprises of 32 members. These members are comprised of 15 elected freight forwarders representing the five recognized freight forwarder associations, and 17 government appointees.

Dr Billy in a chat with DAILY TREND confirmed that the names of the government appointees in the board have already been forwarded to the Minister since February last year by the office of the Secretary General of the Federal (SGF)

According to him, if the CRFFN governing board was in place, the Registrar of the Council would not be struggling with recent contention emanating from the industry practitioners in recent time.

Dr Billy stated the appointees of government on the board, when sworn in, would assist the Registrar to conduct elections of the professional freight forwarders who are coming onboard.

“The SGF since February 2024 has requested for all the input agencies to nominate their candidates, this has been done from all the ministries, parastatals and associations.

“As usual, if those who are nominated have come onboard, we would be able to help the Registrar to conduct an election and bring in those who are elected as professional freight forwarders, after which the Minister can now swear in the board” he said
