At Apapa Port, Cost of Transporting Containers Drops from N1.2million to N350,000

Fresh indications have emerged that the cost of transporting containers from thr Apapa port of Lagos has dropped significantly from its initial N1.2million to an all time low of N350,000 to the excitement of stakeholders.
Chairman of Apapa Chapter of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Chief Emeka Chukwumalu stated this on Tuesday when the association hosted the Customs Area Controller, Apapa command, Compt Babatunde Olomu at the ANLCA headquarters in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
DAILY TREND had reported in March 2025 at the wake of congestion at Apapa port that cost of transportation rose to as high as N900,000 for a forty foot container.
Stakeholders had at the time blamed irregularities in the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Eto Call-up system as responsible for the high cost of haulage as it takes days for trucks to access the port, coupled with challenges of illegal checkpoints and corruption.
However, speaking at the ANLCA National Secretariat, Chief Chukwumalu commended the Apapa Customs Controller, adding that the training programme he had conducted for the clearing agents was an eye opener in solving a lot of challenges at the port.
“We commend your visionary initiative in training of ANLCA members on Truck Transit Park and Eto Call-up system.
“The comprehensive training has been instrumental in qualifying our members to face the initial Eto challenges, a development that has streamlined operations and significantly improved efficiency.
“Furthermore, this training has yielded a remarkable financial benefit for our members, we are incredibly grateful for the reduction in the local transportation cost from the exorbitant N1.2million to a manageable N350,000.
“The reduction has impacted on our members operational cost and profitability. We also appreciate your commitment to making available the necessary facilities and logistics, and ensuring the success of the training programme” Chief Chukwumalu stated.
