Adeniyi’s 2nd Year Anniversary: Comptrollers Olomu, Onyeka, ANLCA NECOM Felicitate Customs CG

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi today 19th June 2025 marks his second year anniversary in office, stakeholders including the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Compt Babatunde Olomu, his counterpart at Tin Can Island Command, Compt Frank Onyeka and the National Executive Committee of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) have sent felicitations to the Customs boss.
Compt Olomu on behalf of the Apapa command commended the transformative changes in modernization, revenue generation, and operational efficiency that Adeniyi’s leadership has brought to the Customs Service.

According to him “Your leadership has brought about transformative changes in modernization, revenue generation, and operational efficiency, inspiring us all.

“We are proud to support your vision for a more robust Nigeria Customs Service and remain dedicated to achieving even greater milestones under your guidance. Congratulations once again, Sir!”

Also full of praises for the Customs CG, the indefatigable Area Controller of Tin Can Customs Command, Compt Frank Onyeka acknowledged that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the Service has achieved unprecedented achievements and greater efficiency.

Onyeka in his congratulatory messsge said “Your visionary leadership and unwavering commitment have significantly transformed the Nigeria Customs Service, steering us towards unprecedented achievements and greater efficiency.

“We at Tin Can Island Port are proud to be part of your success story. We extend our warmest wishes for many more years of impactful service and continued progress under your esteemed guidance”

In the same vein, the National Executive Committee (NECOM) of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) headed by its National President, Emenike Kingsley Nwokeoji commended CGC Adeniyi, saying that his leadership has brought a new era of collaboration and efficiency to the maritime industry.

Emenike in a congratulatory message to the Customs CG stated “On behalf of the National Executive Committee (NECOM) and members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), we extend our warmest congratulations on your two-year anniversary as Comptroller-General of Customs.

“Your leadership has brought a new era of collaboration and efficiency to the maritime industry. We commend your commitment to transparency and proactive stakeholder engagement.

“ANLCA is proud to partner with you in trade facilitation and enhancement of revenue and look forward to continued synergy”

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday 19 June 2023 appointed Adewale Bashir Adeniyi as the new Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service while his appointment was later confirmed in October 2023.

Adeniyi’s performance as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service has been marked by a focus on modernization, revenue generation, and human capital development. 

He has been commended for initiatives that have driven upward revenue generation and improved trade operations through modernization efforts, especially with the deployment of the B’Odogwu trade platform which has brought about efficiency in cargo clearance at Nigerian ports.

In the area of anti-smuggling and border management, Adeniyi’s tenure has fought smuggling of arms, fuel, drugs and other illicit trade to a standstill. He is currently the nightmare of diehard smugglers.

In terms of Cooperate Social Responsibility, the Customs had brought about an initiative known as “Custom Cares” which has become a driver in giving back to the community through building and renovation of schools in border communities, provision of healthcare among others.

In terms of revenue generation, the Service through Adeniyi’s leadership collected N6.1 trillion in revenue in 2024. The figure represents an increase of N2.9 trillion or 90.4 per cent compared to the N3.2 trillion recorded in 2023.

The service has also recorded an unprecedented revenue of ₦1.3 trillion in the first quarter of 2025, more than double the ₦600 billion collected during the same period in 2023.

The customs CG has however attributed this remarkable growth to transformative reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also said that the newly launched Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme is now onboarding pre-vetted importers, allowing compliant businesses faster processing and reducing port congestion.
The Comptroller-General said the agency has introduced fast-track lanes for compliant traders. This has further helped to streamline outbound cargo processes in line with the government’s push for non-oil exports.
