… Importation to Drop further by 40% before Q3

Clearing agents under the aegis of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has described the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as a failure, and that it has not profited the maritime sector in any way.

At it’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Lagos on Thursday, ANLCA’s Acting President, Dr Kayode Farinto in his address said that the level of importation into Nigeria would drop further by 40percent between now and third quarter of the year 2022.

In view of this, Farinto urged all Freight Forwarders in the sector to be ready to mobilize about five million votes for such candidate that will meet the demand of the sector.

“The Buhari led administration has failed us in the Maritime Industry, Freight Forwarders are the most bashed, courtesy of unfriendly policies, deliberately imposing harsh conditions on the Maritime Industry, overtaking the cargo and even operators. It will not be out of place if we say that we have never had it so bad”

“Professional colleague’s facilitation of trade is deliberately jettisoned to achieve revenue targets and as a result of this level of importation continue to drop”

“By our projections, the level of importations will drop by about forty percent (40%) between January and the third quarter of 2022 and care must be taken for our economy not to enter into recession.

“In view of this, we will be imploring our members to integrate properly into our National Politics. We must have inputs before policies will b formulated, particularly, as regards the Maritime Industry”

“Hence, we need to mobilize about five million voters for any Presidential Candidate whose manifestos, we know, can add value to Ports operations, encourages trade facilitation and will not encourage over taxing of our clients/importers”

“I call on all members here present today and by extension our immediate family to ensure that we gets our voters card updated to achieve this goals.

“Everywhere in the whole world, Freight Forwarders are treated as important people, as people that play pivotal role to the growth of the Country’s economy but unfortunately, here we are treated with disdain and as non important people.

“We shall not align with party but any candidate that can deliver on his/her Electoral promises and these promises shall be guaranteed” he said

  1. The maritime sector of Nigeria is derived sector that drags others too. So, the clearing agents were not the only ones affected. Shipping agency companies that husband vessels or stands as disport agents including other allied service providers too.
