MWUN, Onne Multipurpose Terminals Strategise On Boosting Business At Eastern Port
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the Onne Multipurpose Terminals are strategising on boosting business investments at the Eastern ports of Nigeria.
At the strategic meeting which held on Tuesday June 17, 2021, at the National Secretariat of the Union, Olodi – Apapa, Lagos, President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju called on the federal government of Nigeria to encourage maritime operations in the Eastern ports of Warri, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Onne, to reduce the enormous pressure on the Lagos ports.
MWUN stated that the meeting was aimed at drawing up blueprint for increasing terminal activities in Onne Port, and invariably boosting business and the supply chain channels of the Eastern port region.
It also discussed on shoring up trade and commerce and more importantly, commence negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement that will guide conduct and earnings of its employees – dock workers in their terminal, while guaranteeing proper standards of their welfare.
“The meeting also applauds the commencement of Onne Multipurpose Terminals, operators of berth 9 – 11, Onne Port and joins the growing list of stakeholders to appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in attracting investments and development in the port infrastructure of the nation, especially the seemingly neglected Eastern ports”, Adeyanju said.
Adeyanju who received the Onne Multipurpose team in his office, commended Mr. Jacob Christian Gulmann, Managing Director, Mr. Sokeipirim Bob-Manuel , HR Manager and Mr. Daniel Odibe, Head, Government Relations and Commercial, for the investment put in place to benefit Nigerians and create more employment.
The MWUN boss assured the Onne Multipurpose team and management of the Union’s support, while also encouraging the terminal to put in place the right work environment for the labour force.
